Our Approach

Peer Support

What is Peer Support?
Peer support offers participants a relationship unlike any other. Through their own lived experiences, peers can offer a level of understanding and acceptance often absent from other mental health services.

What are the benefits?
The peer relationship offers non-clinical support using a strength-based approach. Peer support does not try to replace clinical treatments; instead it works to compliment them, and assists in breaking down barriers so no one feels as if they have to cope with intense stress, worry, concern, or mental health and work place challenges alone. Peers work together to create stress relief, coping, and wellness goals that work for each unique individual. The peer relationship inspires hope and optimism, and shows people that recovery from any situation is possible. By offering relationships built on mutual trust and respect peer support can help:

  • Promote health and wellness
  • Decrease emergency service utilization
  • Decrease impacts of stigma
  • Promote empowerment
  • Increase sense of control
  • Increase social support
  • Increase treatment retention
  • Increase satisfaction with treatment experiences
  • Decrease overdose rates
  • Support substance abuse recovery
  • Provide support related to alcohol abuse
  • Decrease relapses
  • Provide resources for financial wellness

We provide connections to a wide range of support to help empower individuals to travel their path to wellness and recovery.
